Pre-Wrting

In looking back on all of the pre-writing I have done, the one that works best for me is to free write and/or map. It has always been easiest for me to sit down and just start writing whatever comes to mind, and in some ways to sort of turn off my filter’s a bit to help idea’s flow more freely. Brainstorming and pre-writing techniques such as branching, clustering, and looping have always “thrown me for a loop”, and given me writer’s block. After trying them several times I always end up staring blankly at the page scratching my head and wondering what to write down on my paper next.  But to be able to just sit and start writing (and in most cases now typing) or mapping gives me the best result. I don’t feel like Im trying to fit a mold, “tied” to the words on my page, or that it is such a formal experience. This is the way I feel with the other forms of pre-writing. I feel that my brain has the ability to be more abstract in free writing. The reason that I like mapping is because I also at a lot of times during my life am a list maker. They help me stay on track and remember all of the things I wish to accomplish. Mapping reminds me of this.
